Mutton with Kumbalanga Varutharachathu

This is a recipe by my mother in law...
She cooks it awesome...
After settling here only i tried it.....
It came out well... :)

Here is the recipe....

U Need...

1 .Mutton                      : 500g
2. Onion                        : 1 Medium sized (finely chopped)
3. Garlic                        : 5 No (finely chopped)
4. Ginger                       : 2 inch piece (finely chopped)
5. Green Chilly              : 5 No (ends splitted)
6. Curry leaves              : As required
7. Turmeric Powder      : 1 teaspoon
8. Coriander Powder    : 2 table spoon
9. Chilly Powder           : 1 tablespoon
10.Salt                          : As required
11.Coconut                   : Half a coconut
12.Ashgaurd                  : 100g (cut into small pieces)
13.Small Onion              : 3 No (chopped)
14.Oil                            : 1 tablespoon






How to Cook..

1.Mix it with mutton pieces along with ingredients 1 to 10.(Coriander powder and Chilly powder should be heated in a frying pan before mixing).
2.Keep it aside for 30 mins.
3.Cook the mix with a small amount of water in pressure cooker until 5 whistles.
4.Fry coconut in frying pan and grind it with some water and add it to the cooked meat.
5.Add pieces of Ashgaurd also into it.
6.Add more water if needed.
7.Boil it for 10 mins in low flame.
8.Finally fry the chopped small onion in 1 tablespoon oil and add it to the curry.

Goes well with Rice and Chappathi...

Shravu/Shark Chikkiyathu..

Guys...this is my first post....So thougt of writing a recipe by my grand mother...
She used to cook this very often..but we used 2 be with her only for few holidays....At that time i never used to go even near to the kitchen...and never used to mind how she cooks it...
But now..after marrige when we are settled here....i started my experiments in cooking...
One day when i was thinking of what to cook..ammuma's shravu chikiyathu came to my mind...and i thought of trying it...
Luckily it came out well....



Now to the recipe..

U Need...

1.Shark  :500g.
2.Onion  :1 (medium size, finely chopped)
3.Green Chilly : 5, 6 No.(ends splited)
4.Ginger : 1 inch piece(chopped)
5.Coconut : A hand full.
6.Turmeric powder : 1 + 1/4 teaspoon
7.Chilly powder : 1/4 teaspoon
8.Salt : As required.
9.Water : 2 cups +1/4 cup.
10.Curry leaves : As required.

How to Cook..

1.First boil shark with 1 teaspoon turmeric powder n required amount of salt and 2 cups of water.
2.Remove the water and mash it with spoon.
3.Heat a frying pan and pour 2 tablespoon oil.
4.When the oil is hot add chopped ginger, green chilly n curry leaves to it.
5.After 2 minutes add chopped onion .
6.When the onion is transparent add 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder and 1/4 teaspoon chilly powder.
7.After 1 minute add the mashed shark into it and stir well.
8.Add a hand full of coconut also to it and stir well.
9.Add 1/4 cup of water to it and close the pan with a lid.
10.Cook it for 5 minutes.
11.Should stir it once in a while.
12. Add more salt if necessary.

Now Shravu chikkiyathu is ready....Hope u'll enjoy it... :)
